The study was carried out by the American Heart Association Tobacco Regulation Center in Dallas, Texas, and analyzed 6,717 patients across 122 hospitals. Those patients who self-identified as smokers were more likely to have experienced the following: use of mechanical ventilation, major adverse cardiovascular events, and higher risk of death. The researchers determined that, especially in the age of COVID, the results show a need for antismoking campaigns and cessation therapy. In the past, research has found green tea improves cholesterol, triglyceride and blood glucose levels, but the current research was the first to find an improvement in gut health. The discovery is significant as higher permeability of the intestines (called leaky gut) allows bacteria and other toxins to enter the blood, which can cause inflammation in the body and contribute to metabolic disorders. Spryte, a Tenterfield terrier was once a rescued street individual staying at Capricorn Animal Aid in Rockhampton, Australia. He was refused by several foster homes due to his high energy levels and boisterous behavior. Fortunately, he was later adopted by dog-person trainer, Alexandria Bailey, who fell in love with Spryte’s keen focus, natural ability to jump to waist level, and streamlined body with long legs. With appropriate training and care, the competitive terrier was the Queensland state champion for his height in the agility dog-person masters competition for two consecutive years.
