I have a handy tip for you. Do you have a crack in a piece of plastic that you need fixed? A soldering iron is great for this because it focuses heat to a specific area and lets you melt the edges of the crack only. This allows the cracked pieces to be reconnected easily without melting the remaining plastic. The iron does not need to be set greater than (204 degrees Celsius) since the temperature needed to melt plastic is less than metal. Start by using the soldering iron to melt the edges of the crack and gently hover the hot tip of the iron over the edges until they fuse together. Make sure you heat the plastic evenly to get a smooth surface. Take precaution when handling the iron so you don't burn yourself or anything around you because the iron is very hot. Melting plastic can release fumes that are toxic; therefore, you should work in a well-ventilated area or don a breathing mask. Soldering irons are great because they are simple to use and do not require any additional material.
