Our Universe: A Simulation or Real, Physical Realm? Part 2 of 2

In today’s program, we look at some of the empirical evidence which supports the hypothesis that our universe may be a mere mirage. Dr. Tegmark explained that, the more we learn about the universe, the more we discover that it is governed by immutable mathematical laws. Patterns of motion and gravity, electricity, magnetism, light, heat, chemistry, radioactivity and subatomic particles all can be explained mathematically. This fact, he says, is the strongest evidence that our universe could be a simulation. “If I were a character in a computer game, I would also discover eventually that the rules seemed completely rigid and mathematical,” he stated, “that just reflects the computer code in which it was written.”

This remarkable discovery led Dr. Gates to hypothesize that our universe might be, indeed, a giant computer simulation, complete with error-correcting codes. Dr. Gates believes this also raises several spiritual questions. If the simulation hypothesis is valid, then we do not really die. Thus, eternal life and resurrection are possible, things formally discussed only in religion. And if someone created our simulation, who is the super consciousness creating this code? Dr. Gates wonders if this entity might be God.
