Summertime can get pretty hot; therefore, it’s crucial to check the temperature of outdoor surfaces prior to allowing your dog and feline companions out to play. According to Dr Samantha Webster, a vet at Joii Pet Care in the UK, you can check the temperature of the surface they will likely walk on by putting the back of your hand against it for a minimum of seven seconds. If it’s too hot for your hand, then it will also be too hot for your furry friends’ paws. Dr. Webster states that natural grass remains much cooler than other surfaces, but for those without it, she recommends creating regions of shade in gardens, or setting cool, damp towels down for your four-legged companions to rest on. Note that artificial grass can get as hot as pavement. Please take the necessary precautions to keep your animal-friends safe in the heat!
