I have a health tip for you, especially for those living a vegan lifestyle. Getting a sufficient level of vitamin B12 is important, because it assists the body in maintaining healthy nerve cells and the production of DNA. Health professionals recommend 50 micrograms of vitamin B12 a day. There are six signs of vitamin B12 deficiency you should look out for: decreased energy, extreme tiredness, muscle weakness, pins and needles, depression, and cognitive problems like impaired memory, understanding, and judgement. Vitamin B12 is produced by bacteria in healthy soil; however, since food is so purified and refined now, most people need to get their daily intake from fortified foods or supplements. This is vital because our absorption of vitamins and minerals reduces with age, particularly those above fifty years old. Therefore, people should consider a supplement to ensure they have an adequate B12 intake. B12-fortified foods such as plant-based milks, nutritional yeast flakes, along with vegan yogurts and desserts, are sold in stores, so it would be great to choose those versions when you can.
