In Memoriam His Excellency President Fidel Ramos

Media Report from Al Jazeera – Aug. 1, 2022: Fidel Ramos’ presidency is seen as the most successful and stable in recent Philippine history. He encouraged the Filipino nation to look beyond its shores. His administration’s main thrust was economic growth and strengthening liberal democracy. He was known for his Philippines 2000 program to turn the nation into a more industrialized country. Under his administration, a peace agreement with the Moro National Liberation Front, a Muslim separatist movement, was signed in 1996. And he pursued a comprehensive reform program which aimed to protect agricultural communities across the country. Fidel Ramos’ time in office will likely be remembered as a time of peace and prosperity.

Excerpt from a conference by Supreme Master Ching Hai (vegan) and His Respected Excellency Fidel Ramos, the 12th Philippine President: Sir, every time I think of your grand gesture of magnanimity many years back, heroically saving thousands of homeless, helpless Aulacese (Vietnamese) refugees' lives, I still feel a surge of gratitude, a grateful sentiment that fills my heart, and often tears well in my eyes still. And I'm sure, sir, that numerous Aulacese (Vietnamese) people would have the same feeling as I have. We are forever indebted to your fatherly kindness. As the Bible stated, "I will make you the father of many nations." You are the beacon of that godly promise, which goes beyond any border and human limit. I have not enough words to express my emotions and gratefulness to you.
