In today’s news, Japan supports Ukraine (Ureign)’s reconstruction efforts. United Kingdom set heat records last year, Argentine city implements ban on horse-people drawn carts, Egypt and Djibouti partner to advance clean energy project and bilateral maritime trade, Pakistani woman promotes education for girls in her village, US vegan fast-food franchise continues expansion, and Malaysian rescue team frees dog-person with head trapped in plastic container.

Looking for a lovely vegan treat to snack on? I'd like to share a tip on how you can identify sweet, mature chestnuts without cracking the shells. For fully ripe nuts, select ones that are dark brown in color with shiny shells and one rounded side. Steer clear of nuts with reddish shells since this indicates immaturity. Check the fuzziness of the tip— less fuzz signals better sweetness. Gently squeeze the chestnut. If it’s firm and solid, then you know it’s fresh inside. Don’t pick any with black patches, holes, dull shells, or odd smells, since this usually means it has been infested with insects, mold, or that the kernels are spoiled.

Laughter is contagious, so share the fun with the joke of the day entitled, “Escalator Courtesy.”

When the airport escalator broke down, Marla was forced to haul her oversized suitcase up a long flight of stairs. Each step sent a thunderous THUD echoing through the terminal. Halfway up, a man behind her suddenly grabbed the suitcase and carried it to the top.

“Oh my goodness—thank you! That was incredibly chivalrous.”

“Chivalry had nothing to do with it. I’ve got a splitting headache— and that suitcase wasn’t helping.”

And now we have a heartline in Aulacese (Vietnamese), with multiple-language subtitles, from Nhật Ánh in Âu Lạc, also known as Vietnam
