The latest research by the Lancet Countdown on Health and Climate Change warns that the effects of climate change, including widespread food insecurity, infectious diseases, and extreme weather events, are putting “unprecedented strains” on global health systems. Specifically, about 57% of 2020’s agricultural emissions were caused by animal-people red meat and dairy production, which is also impacting public well-being. Globally, more than 12 million deaths occurred due to overconsumption of animal-people meat and dairy along with insufficient intake of plant-based foods. The report concludes that shifting to diets rich in fruits, legumes, vegetables, whole grains, nuts, and seeds can reduce greenhouse gas emissions while reaping “major benefits” for public health.

Thank you, international scientists, for your insightful study. May governments quickly initiate a universal vegan food system to address the climate and public health crises, in Heaven’s wisdom.
